A collection of Baby Tips in ABC....
(Collected from all over the internet)
- A better night sleep When my daughter was 6 months I realized she fell asleep quicker when I held her in my arms. But when I placed her in her crib she would start to cry.. Well I figured out that we wanted to be held, but that would be impossible.. so what I started to do was place my t-shirt or pj top in the crib and as long as my scent was near her she would go to sleep, probably thinking that I was near! Once she fell asleep I would remove the t-shirt and she would sleep comfortably through the night!
- A memorable first birthday tip For my children's first birthday I lay out a mat that would fit into a frame. I usually use an 8X10 but it really doesn't matter what size you use. When the guests arrive for the party they all write a special message to the birthday child. I then put their first birthday picture in it and hang it in their room. It's a very special keepsake!!!
- A safe way to powder baby's bottoms. You should never shake the powder directly on baby’s bottom, they can inhale it and this is not safe. I found that if you put some powder in a plastic container with a lid you can take a pinch of it out and sprinkle it on baby's bottom. Most books do not recommend putting powder on newborns, but I found it helped to prevent the onset of a diaper rash. Just a little goes a long way.
- A snack to keep them busy I discovered this quite by accident. In a desperate attempt to get my cutiepie to stop screaming at a salad bar buffet restaurant, I gave him one of those cake ice-cream cones (empty of course). It lasted him a good 20 minutes and best of all it leaves no mess. The cone dissolved slowly as he gums it and as far as I can tell (having used this trick several more times) poses no choking hazard. I now keep a couple in my diaper bag at all times!
- Another diaper rash tip The only thing that worked for her was a product called Ilex. The hospital gave it to us. Then the pharmacy had to special order it. It is a petroleum paste that really sticks. You put it on thick and then coat it with petroleum jelly so it won't stick to the diaper. It worked like a charm.
- Babies in restaurants When we go out to a restaurant, we place an ice cube on the tray of our little guy, he spends a great deal of time pushing it around and watching it melt. We can enjoy our meal without him get restless quickly. Just be sure he doesn't get hold of it and choke on it! Usually its far too slippery to pick up -but best to be careful!
- Babies not seeming satisfied with bottle If your baby doesnt seem satified with his or her bottles like they arent getting full put a teaspoon of kayro syrup in its bottle this will also help. If your child is constipated to goes easier.
-
BABY + CURLY HAIR Oh if you are like me and was blessed to have a baby with curly
hair, i am sure at times you want to pull your hair out, with knots and tangles. One
thing mom did with me (who also has curly hair)is before you try to brush the babies
hair is put baby lotion. It will make it 100% easiyer to get thru the hair. You do not
want to used baby oil too much. It will dry out your baby's hair.you do not want to put
mouse or gell into the child's hair to comb it is it kill the hair and make it have split
ends. Baby oil is good though if the baby has cradel cap. Put it on the area that has it
and get the baby comb and you will be able to comb out 80% on the dead skin..
- baby can't poop a heaping tablespoon f brown sugar into 4 ounces of warm water will get things moving again
- Baby Does Like to Sleep in Bed If you have trouble with your baby sleeping in his/her own bed, but they like to sleep in their car seat, try placing the car seat in the bed. They will become used to the bed's surroundings.
- Baby food on the floor no more All around the high chair is a growing pile of food spill over(throw over). I put a plastic tread mat down under and dump it as needed/wash & go again.
- Baby shoes My mom purchased those hard bottom shoes when I was a baby. I purchased shoes for my daughter when she was born and plenty of them which she wore for only a month and for show since infants dont walk. I recently had my son and waited until at least 9 mos and event then I only purchased what was on sale and to keep him from taking his socks off....otherwise his shoes stay nice and clean because I take them off at the front door.
- Baby Signs If you are not familiar with Baby Signs, check it out! Teaching your baby/toddler sign language is a terrific way to help them communicate long before they can communicate verbally.
- Baby Wakes Up Through the Night Still ?! If your baby still wakes up through the night, set your alarm clock a few minutes before the time he/she usually wakes up. Wake them up, change them, feed them (if hungry), and play a little with them. Put them back to bed. Each night, set your alarm clock a few minutes later....slowly extending the time that they will wake up. It may take a few weeks, but it worked for me. Just be persistant and it will work !
- Baby Wipes 1 1/2 C. hot tap water 2T baby oil 1T baby bath 1 roll paper towels(bounty rinse&reuse) Cut paper towels in half w/electric knife. Take out center tube. Put in container (find at Target). Pour above mixture over top. Put on cover. They work better than the leading brands, and smell great!
- Baby Wipes To make homemade Baby wipes, Take Bounty paper towels and cut each sheet in half. Add 2 capfuls of baby wash and a cup and a half of water. Store in old wipe container. Refil as needed. Will need to check to make sure wipes are still moist. If not just add a little water. This makes inexpensive wipes, that you know won't irritate your babies skin.
- Baby wipes To make inexpensive and gentle home-made baby wipes, just pour a bottle of baby oil over a roll of toilet tissue and let sit overnight until all of the oil is absorbed. The tissue is soft and absorbent and leaves a soothing coat of baby oil behind. One roll lasts and lasts.
- Bathing towel Here is a tip that has worked wonderfully for a newborn. I needed an extra arm for my towel, so I made a large towel into an apron. I put a strap at one short end and sewed it on. On the other end I put a snap. This way when baby was done, I held her up to me and wrapped her up with the bottom of the towel. I could then unsnap my neck and we were good to go!
- BATHING YOUR BABY A lot of moms are fearful of giving their baby a bath in the "big" bath tub for the first time. I've been using a yellow sponge mat that I bought at Target for $3. It is shaped for the baby's body and when he was little I laid him on it and filled the bath tub up with about 2 inches of water. Now that he can sit up, I sit him on it and he doesn't slide around. He loves to sit up and splash in the water.
- Beach Towel for Bath Instead of using a baby towel to dry baby, use a large beach towel. You can really wrap him up and keep him warm. Also prevents him from wiggling out of it before you can get him dressed and diapered.
-
Beginner juice drinkers I found when my son was only drinking an ounce or two of
juice at a time I was either opening a big jug of juice only for it to go to waist or
waisting the better part of a juice box. Here is my solution. Buy a big jug of juice and
freeze it into ice cubes. When you need it, just drop a cube or two into the cup or
bottle and add water to dilute if desired. One 32 oz bottle of juice lasted me over a
month.
- Best bib If you are like me and have one of those messy self feeders, think about getting one of those hard plastic bibs with the catch pocket at the bottom. As food falls into the pocket, I "recycle" it right back on to his tray. I know Baby Bjorn and Mam make them and you can also get them at IKEA. The pocket is also handy for feeding snacks on the go. I put his bib on him when he is in his stroller and put cheerios in the pocket. He loves discovering the surprise and it keeps him busy for a quite a while. This bib is also very easy to keep clean; simply spray with a spray cleaner and wipe dry.
- Best ever diaper rash creme For those super stubborn diaper rashes this is the best. You need: plain vaseline or petroleum jelly antacid tablets (i.e. Tums) Finely crush tablets and mix with vaseline. Place on affected area three times a day. It sounds srtange but really works. You can use liquid antacid, but it doesn't mix very well.
- Biting While Nursing Since I breastfed my son for the first 12 months, and since he got his first two teeth at around 5 months, obviously I got bitten a few times! I've found a good way to get him to let go when he's biting my nipple is to pinch his nose. Since he can't breathe through his mouth yet, he immediately opens his mouth and lets go! This saves on unnecessary pain!
- BOTTLE ON THE GO When I need to go somewhere and I don't know if I'll be able to heat my 6 week old's bottle, I just warm it at home and drop the bottle (closed tightly, of course) inside an already warmed thermos...keeps it just the right temp!!!
- Bottles on the go When I go out somewhere and I know I won't have access to a bottle warmer or hot water to warm the baby's bottle, I bring spring water at room temp. and then add the baby powder as I need it to the baby bottle.
- Bottles To Go After the convenience of breastfeeding ended, I had to find a way to mix bottles while on the run. I found the following to work for us: Fill the bottle(s) with hot water in the amount needed for a feeding. Have the powdered formula pre- measured for your amount of water in a small container(s). Then all you have to do is add the formula to the bottle and shake to mix. Unless you need the bottle right away, the water will have cooled enough to feed baby without the risk of scalding, but may still be warm enough to be just like dinner at home!
- Breastfeeding The best thing that I did when I was breastfeeding was use a Hugster Nursing Pillow. I tried a couple other brands before a friend bought me the Hugster. The others were either too stiff or too small for my waist. I had a c-section and the Hugster took pressure off of my tummy and protected my tummy from my 3 year old that wanted to climb. I also used the pillow to sleep with at night. I wrapped the pillow diagonally over my torso and I have to say, I have never slept better! This is a great product and I now give it to all of my friends.
- Crying Baby When A baby cries try to give the baby a warm bath and talk to the baby. Try to rock the baby to sleep avoid the pacifer ( if you cant then give the baby the pacifer) try singing and a massage
- Cereal Solution I find that the boxed infant cereals are hard to measure as the cereal comes pouring out of the box uncontrollably. So I pour the cereal into an easy-fill zip- lock, the kind that stand up, and use a measuring spoon from a can of formula to accurately measure the cereal. You can even label the bags: rice, oatmeal, barley, etc.
- Changing crib sheets Changing crib sheets is always difficult, especially if you have a crying baby on your hands or if your crib is in a corner. To make changes easier, take the mattress out and put on several layers of sheets and waterproof pads. When you have a late night accident to clean up, its a lot easier to strip off one layer and have a clean one ready beneath than to struggle to get a new sheet on the mattress
- CHEAP TOYS There's no need to go out and buy those expensive toys. Just take an old medicine bottle and fill it with marbles. To keep the lid on just put superglue on the cap and the just screw it on. My daughter is 4 months old and she loves those better than her rattles.
-
Clean Pacifiers To keep a stash of clean pacifiers in the diaper bag: Wash out a small
margarine tub or deli container (in the dishwasher if you can) and put the clean
pacifiers in it. This way, they stay clean and ready to use should one fall on the ground
when you're out. When my son was really little, I would rinse the tub with boiling water
as well as boil the pacifiers.
- Clean-up time! Teach your child at an early age how to clean up after himself! Place a small plastic bin or other container (non-harmful to baby if he should get hold of it!) in the corner of the playpen. After baby is done with his playpen time, slowly take his toys, as he watches, and put them back in the bin. Then take his little hand and help him pick up some of the toys and then guide his hand over to the bin so he can drop the toy in. This does take some extra time and patience, but over time, he will learn that when play time is over, it's time to clean up his mess in his playpen, and then eventually his room!
- Cleaning Bath Toys Cleaning bath toys ~ Throw them in the washer and dryer (I found the rubber ducks squeek better)
- CLEANING BOTTLES :To cut back on the amount of bottles to wash use this trick. After your baby finishes a bottle wash it right away with hot soapy water and fill it with more formula for the next feeding. Do this only once of course before putting it in the sterilizing pile. You won't have to wash bottles as often and as long as the water is hot and the soap is anti-bacterial it is safe for baby
- Colic Help While pregnant with my third child, I enrolled in an infant massage class. It turned out to be a life saver when both my third and fourth babies had colic! The massage helped to comfort their tummies (and helped them poop), and gave me something to do when their crying was driving me out of my mind!
- Colic Help Gripe Water--Found at health food stores and is specific for colic. A friend of mine had a crying baby for 3 months and after using the Gripe Water, as directed on the bottle, almost instantly the crying stopped.
- Colic relief The only way we could calm our daughter's colic was to run the vacuum- she quieted instantly-and we got a little housework done-this also worked well into her older-baby fussy stage.
- Colic Remedy A good idea when your baby has colic, if your baby is not too young, lie down on your back with legs up and bent. Place baby on tummy on legs and gently move baby up and down or side to side.
- Colic, Excessive Gas Instead of spending 6 to 8 dollars on the Mylicon drops I was told to boil some water and then while it was still fairly hot drop a couple of old fashioned peppermints (you can get a bag at WalMart for about a dollar) then when baby has gas or a stomach ache because of gas give the baby a dropper full of the peppermint water just as you would the Mylicon drops. I tried this and it worked within ten minutes everytime. I started giving my daughter this when she was about 4 months old and shes almost 2 years now and we haven't had a problem with it since.
- Constipation My son gets really constipated,so what helps the most- is the beachnut, plum baby food. I don't like the idea of corn syrup or brown sugar.
- Cool summer treat I wanted a cool treat for my 9 month old who is teething. So,I puchased a "Baby Safe Feeder" (it is a mesh bag that screws on to a handle) and cut up pieces of banana, froze them in the freezer (wrapped in plastic wrap and a baggie while in the freezer to keep it fresh)and then took one piece out at a time, as needed, and put it into the Baby Safe Feeder. My son loves the cool snack and it really seems to help with his teething.
- Cradle Cap When my son had cradle cap I just rubbed some oil (apricot for example) on his head and let it sit for about 15 minutes and then I took a fine tooth comb and gently combed his head and it came off practically in sheets. He was usually asleep in my arms when I did it so there was no fussing. I cringe when I hear people suggesting head and shoulders. Have you ever used it? It burns your head!
- Cradle Cap My 2 month old son had a bad case of cradle cap his doctor told me to use Head & Shoulders on it every day for a week then every other day after that. It took a few weeks but it worked.
- Cure for Colic If your baby has been suffering from colic, try this home remedy. Buy some fennel at your local market (this is found at health food stores, grocery stores, etc). Use the fennel to make a strong tea and mix about 1-2 ounces in with the bottle of milk/formula.
- Cute organizer I went to the kitchen section of a local department store. I purchased a three drawer spice/tea holder. It has hooks on the back of it, so I hung it on the wall by my son's changing table. I filled the first drawer with cotton balls, the second with q-tips & alcohol swabs(for the cord), and the third drawer with the small misc items that are easily misplaced.(brush, clippers, bulb, thermometer, etc.) The top is a shelf so I bought a little basket & that is where I keep the vaseline, diaper cream, and lotion. Everything is at my fingertips when he is changed and the little things are easy to find.
- Diaper changes easier I bought a inexpensive plastic basket, just larger than a baby wipes container, from a dollar store. Then I fill it with enough diapers for the day, powder, cream, gripe water, and all the necessities for the diaper change. I keep it in my living room because that's where baby is most the time. Everything is easily excessible and it's small enough to decetly place under a chair or on a shelf.
- Diaper Changing When changing a infant boy's diaper, keep a stack of those small paper bathroom cups closeby. When the diaper comes off, the cup should go on, if you know what I mean! It contains those occasional unexpected showers!
- Diaper Rash From anything from a minor rash to a major one, the best thing in the world is a topical application of "Mylanta" (then do not use orally) Myland is an ant-acid and works on the uric acid left on the baby from the urine. The baby likes it, because it is usually cool on a red, inflamed and slightly warm diaper rash. You can usually see results fairly quickly
- DIAPER RASH I've tried every diaper rash treatment I could find, and the only one that has worked is MAALOX! It neutralizes the acid in your stomach so why not in the diaper? Apply it with cotton or put directly in the diaper. My son's rash cleared up within 1 - 2 changes (even when VERY severe.)
- Diaper Rash My son had a rash that didn't go away for quite awhile. I made this concoction to help ease the pain and help it go away. It worked in just a few days, when all of the others failed! 1 Large tube Balmex 1 Large tube A & D with Zinc Oxide 1 Tablespoon Maalox 1 Tablespoon Bacatracin Mix them together well and spread it on at each diaper change, after drying his bottom totally. I used it in conjuction with cloth diapers and it really works!! Good Luck!
- Diaper Rash When my first son was born, he had a terrible bout with Diarrhea and his bottom was cracked, red and bloody. The best cure I have found for him was corn starch, I would mix some with water and then apply a thick layer of it before my son would go to bed, when he would wake up in the morning his bottom was all better
- Diaper Rash Poor babies with diaper rash. My grandmother who was born in 1888 in Washington State learned this recipe from her mother who immigrated from Ireland. Little ones still get this even when their mothers have 100% cotton diapers on them. In our family - we use Browned Flour - You take a cup of white flour (not brown flour) and brown it in a cast-iron pan. Now if you don't have a cast-iron pan - any pan will do.(We just always use the cast-iron pan). This will take anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes. Watch it carefully because when the flour starts to brown it does so quickly. Put this wonderful concoction in a jar. After you have clean and dried their little bottoms just apply a tablespoon or so lightly. You will be amazed at how comforting this feels for the little tykes and how quickly this works. Caretakers are happy also. You are not using any chemicals, additivies, etc. - just plain old flour and your babies will be happy that you took the time and made this for them.

Diaper Rash Cure My first 2 daughters had sensitive skin and would get terrible diaper
rashes. Our Dr prescribed a perscription medication, but that didn't work right away.
When my 3rd was born, she had a diaper rash so I took her to the Dr for the script.
Instead he told me to go buy a tube of Monistat(or generic) 7 day yeast infection
cream. It's safe for newborns. It worked so fast! Everyone I know has got permission
from their Dr to use it, and has had the same good results as I've had. I've already
purchased a tube for my lil boy on the way.
- Diaper Rash Fix For bad diaper rash, like that caused by anitbiotics, we use athelete's foot creme, like Lotrimin. Our doctor says there is nothing better, and it clears the rash in less than 2 days.
- Diaper Rash Treatmeat WORKS! Here is a tip that my sons dr told us! If you are tired of buying all the expecive diaper rash creams try using udder cream! It is found in the pet isle at places like Walmart or at a pet store! Put it on thick at each changing and it will heal up within a day or two!! It really works my son is now 2 and always had bad diaper rashes...none of the baby diaper rash cream would work as well as this did! It is well worth the money!
- DIAPER RASH TREATMENT Want to get rid of diaper rash without expensive and smelly creams? Try Aunt Freida's proven treatment. Brown flour in pan over medium heat. Wait until cool and place on baby's bottom. Usually in one day the redness is totally gone and baby is a happy camper! You can also use this on those babies that have extra folds and get irritated skin. I tried those expensive creams with no luck, then my aunt said to try this and it worked!
- Diapering basket Buy an inexpensive plastic or wicker basket to keep all you need for diapering. In the morning fill it with diapers, wipes, diaper rash ointment, changing pad, etc. Keep the basket downstairs where baby spends most of the day. Now you have all you need ready for the day and no running up and down the stairs for diaper changes.
- Dirty Diapers I saved the bags that my newspapers came in in the winter and when the weather was bad and put the dirty disposable diapers in them. It was a lot cheaper than a diaper genie. I even put a diaper in, knotted it and then could put another one in. It really helped cut down on the smell between taking the garbage out.
- Disposable Bottle Liners In order to make your disposable bottle liner supply last twice as long, just rinse out and reuse the liner. I've found that I can double or triple the amount of use I get and that saves me time and money. :)
- Doctoring Baby When having to put Desitin on or any type of Diaper Rash ointment on my baby, I use a q-tip instead of using my finger so I don't have to get it all over my hands or the baby!
- Dried out baby wipes To help baby wipes from getting all dried out and make them last longer. Before you add a refill pack to the baby wipe container put about 1/2 inch of water into the bottom of the container mix in a squirt of liquid baby wash. When you now add the baby wipe refills they'll soak up the water and soap mixture. This helps to decrease the amount of wipes you use, since wetter wipes clean up poopy bottoms with less wipes. And the wipes remain wet throughout the whole pack.
- Easy Nail Clipping To easily clip baby's fingernails and toenails follow these three easy steps. 1. Run a warm bath in ADULT bathtub and put in some lavender baby wash for bubbles. 2. Get in tub with your baby between your legs and enjoy bubbles together. 3. Before getting out, you can clip nails; baby will be relaxed and nails are softer.
- Enough Milk! When Breastfeeding try pumping at the same time it will help with let down and you will fill that bottle a whole lot faster!!
- Falling back to sleep My son always had trouble sleeping and would wake frequently even before I had gone to bed. I had tried several things to try and help him fall asleep including comforting him beside the crib. Finally I tried singing to him without picking him up or cooing or soothing first. He would go back to sleep within seconds.
- Feeder Bibs Feeder bibs all over the place? I purchased a plastic sticky-backed hook and stuck it on the back of our highchair. Now the bibs are there all the time, are within easy reach, and not messing up the table or bench tops.
- Feeding Habits Should Start Now Now that my son is almost 2 I look back at a practice that I insisted on at all times. I have always insisted that my son be in his high chair during meal time, from start to finish whether he wanted to eat or not (I have never forced him to eat). Now at meal time he gets into his chair when I set the table and stays there until the table is cleared off. Those who mocked me still continue to chase their toddlers around the kitchen and in restaurants. From the time they are able to sit in a high chair this should be put into practice, to ensure they are in the habit of doing so when they are older.
- Feeding Tips Instead of buying expensive feeding bowls, I just buy the throw awayGlad Ware small round bowls with lids. They're the perfect size and you get several for 2 or 3 pounds. If you lose one, no big deal.
- First Feedings... When first feeding an infant, sit them in their infant seat, tippedback to have gravity on your side! Fill only the tip of the spoon with cereal or fruit, and then swipe it on the roof of baby's mouth and it will plop down onto their tongue and be deposited near the back where the swallow reflex will take it down!
- Fried Flour Diaper Rash Cure My daughter had a bad diaper rash that seemed to get worse with every cream and ointment I tried. It even started to bleed so I called my mom up and she told me what an oriental lady told her to do when I was a baby. Put regular flour in a frying pan, no oil, no nothing, and fry it. Stir it until it is golden brown (it will smell like burnt popcorn) cool it and sprinkle on baby's rear. My daughter's rash cleared up over night! I later found out from her doctor that it was a yeast infection. It still clears my daughter's diaper rashes anytime she gets them! It's cheaper than any of the creams or ointments too!
- Fussiness When my 9 month old seems fussy, I turn on the washer and dryer, or the dishwasher. It seems to really calm him...he plays by himself and just entertains himself! I guess it's just the background noise. I really don't know to this day, but he quits being fussy!
- Get baby out of my bed! PROBLEM: Daddy wanted our bed again after baby was born and I wanted to have her close so I'd get enough rest since I am breastfeeding. Baby didn't want to be alone in her own bed so she'd cry all night till we gave in. NO one was getting enough sleep. SOLUTION: Put baby mattress on floor next to big bed... roll over and lay with her in her bed when feeding and have our bed to just us! If she wimpers in the night I just have to reach down and take her hand and she goes back to sleep unless she's hungry. I can easily feed her and get back in my comfy bed w/o having to wake everyone up.
- Getting out baby burp to get baby burp out of your baby's clothes use tilex the only things it can't be used on without fadding is embrodery i use it when my daughter was a baby and was able to save a lot of her clothes and they looked like new
- Giving an uncooperative baby medicine When trying to administer medicine, especially through a dropper, babies will not always just swallow the liquid when you inject it into their mouth. I just take a bottle nipple and put my finger over to whole, turn it upside down and squezze the medicine into the the bottom side of the nipple. I then hold my baby on my lap and give the nipple to her as if I was going to feed her. She gulps a couple of times and presto, the medicine is administered struggle free!GNAT, FLY AND MOSQUITO REPELLENT This will not harm babies' faces. It can also be sprayed onto horses to prevent pests from bothering them. 1 T. vanilla extract 1 C. water Mix. Store in a tightly-covered container. Rub this mixture on faces and arms. Also apply it around eyes and ears and it will keep flies away.
- Goodbye teething pain After trying several remedies, including natural remedies, I finally found one teething oil that really worked. Unfortunately, I can't find it in the stores anymore. The good news is that the unique ingredient was CLOVE OIL. Just 4 drops of clove oil to 1 tablespoon safflower oil did the trick. For a little sronger numbing effect, add more clove oil, but don't overdo it. It can burn if it's too strong. I try it on myself first.
- Grumpy Baby When ever my 9 month old little girl is having a bad day, because of her teething, a slight cold or its a rainy day outside and nothing else seems to make her feel better, not the medicine hugs, or sleep and all she wants is %100 mommy love I take the time to give her a warm bath. I make the bath really bubbly and I put in her bath toys. This always gets her in a really happy mood. After her bath I grab her baby lotion and give her a massage. This not only helps her relax, but it also helps her fall asleep. SMALL TIP: Don't forget to put her diaper on as you give her a massage... the mess that can happen, well you know.
- Having a Bedtime Routine My daughter kept me up all night. It seemed that she would wake up at least three times a night until she was seven months old. Finally, I read an article that had several tips for putting a baby to bed for the night. I tried most of them, but the one that worked best was to put her to bed at the same time every night. She now is ten months and knows that when mommy lays her in the bed at 9:30 every night that it is time to sleep. She sleeps until about 7:00 a.m. the next morning.
- Help for washing baby's hair Save the squirt bottle they give you in the hospital for episiotomy care and use it to wash the baby's hair. It has the perfect level of water pressure and good control to wet and rinse baby's head.
- Help with crawling My son's 8 months old and wanting to crawl. We have no carpets in the house. He would always slide on the hard wood floors. I found a carpet 40x60 to lay on the floor and a week later he could get on all fours. Now he's racing around the house.
- High Chair (keep from slipping) Keep baby from slipping down in a highchair by attaching non-skid tub appliques to the back and seat of the chair.
- High chair etiquette early on! As a new mom, I've always just assumed that when babies are in their high chairs, it's perfectly natural for them to put their fingers in their mouths when those mouths are full of food and then run their fingers through their hair and all over the place! I also thought it to be "natural" for these infants/toddlers to throw their food off of their high chairs onto the floor. I wasn't looking forward to this particular stage, but I figured it was coming no matter what, and we'd just have to get through it until they outgrew it. Well...I then discovered that even little ones can learn manners early on! We taught our son at about the age of 7 months not to put his fingers in his mouth while chewing his food (unless it's to help push something in), and he's learned not to throw things onto the floor on purpose. He's learned to be a semi-neat eater who makes very little mess both on his high chair tray and the floor. Now when we're done eating, we don't have to immediately bathe him to get the food off of his head or out of his hair! It took some patience and guidance, but he learned in a matter of a couple of weeks. Now when people come over and see us feeding him, they are amazed at how "neat" he is in the high chair! It is completely possible (and not that hard) to teach your little one some respect at the dinner table (high chair) early on! I don't understand why parents buy these "messy mats" to put under their child's high chairs...it's like saying, "Go ahead...make a mess!" It doesn't have to be that way!
- Homemade Toy Need a new toy...quick? Try filling an empty and dry 12 oz. water bottle with a few un-popped popcorn seeds. My 5 month old loves it. It's easy for her to hold and she loves to shake it and act like she's drinking from it. You can also fill a Pringles can with un-popped popcorn cover the whole thing with contact paper and if you want poke a hole in each end and lace a string or ribbon through. That way the baby can hold on to the ribbon and kick the can with her feet. To prevent strangulation, cut the ribbon in half.

How to Ease craddle Cap What you do first is rub some oil on the scalp, massage 1-2
teaspoons of vegetable/olive or baby oil into the flakes to make them soft and easy to
remove. Let it sit for about 5 minutes for it to completely soak into the craddle cap.
The gently remove the loosened flakes with a wash cloth or soft bristled tooth brush.
Then follow with tearless shampoo to wash all the oils out, use a mild shampoo
"Johnson and Johnson" works for me. Don't rub too hard a babys head is very delicate,
never pull or scratch at the scales it may cause their skin to get red and very sensitive.
Dry air can make cradle cap worse so you can use a humidifier or set a can of water
near your heaters to put moisture into the air.
- How to help a fussy/hungry baby latch When your baby is having trouble latching due to nipple confusion, tiredness, fussiness, prefers one breast over the other etc..., try putting a little bit of gripe water on your nipple(if breastfeeding) or the bottle nipple. This works for me everytime and my baby will latch immediately even when crying and begin eating,it works for me everytime.
- How to keep your baby clean on Public Changing Tables I used to dread going out & having to change my baby on a public restroom changing station because she always wanted to touch the big plastic part attached to the wall and turn over and touch the table (YUCK!!!). I solved this problem by giving her a wet wipe to hold while I was changing her diaper. Not only does it keep her from touching any part of the changing table, it also cleans her hand.
- How to shower with young kids When I first had my son it was very overwhelming because I was usually alone. So when my husband went away and I had Hunter for a week or more alone I got tired of not being able to shower untill midnight. So I had it, I got creative and bought a see through shower curtian with some bright colored fish on them. I sat him in his bouncing chair and played peek a boo with him until I was done. He loved it. It beats peaking your head out every 2 seconds which would make my shower longer. Hope it might help some single Mommys or Daddys : )
- I'll Pass on this Yucky Cereal Mommy My daughter didnt care at all for the rice cereal I was trying to give her for breakfast. I tried several things and nothing worked. Finally I mixed half formula and half apple juice when I made her cereal in the morning and now she eats it. I cant believe she wouldnt eat it with fruit but she will eat it with the juice. Hey, it worked for me.
- INDEPENDENT FEEDING When baby begins feeding himself/herself, give them a plastic measuring spoon!! The "pockets" in these spoons are usually larger than the baby/toddler spoons on the market. The deeper grooves also help cut down on the mess, as baby food sticks to these a little better!!! This worked GREAT with my daughter at the beginning of her independence streak @ a whopping 8 months old!!
- Infant bathing tip When bathing an infant, I would always wait until someone else could accompany me so that one of us could bathe the baby and the other would be ready with towel in hand to dry. After realizing that waiting for an extra pair of hands wasn't always practical I discovered this tip.... if you have a bouncy seat for your infant, this works perfectly. Just drape your towel over the bouncy seat and after bathing, baby can easily be taken from the bath to the bouncy seat and then bundled in the towel. This is so much easier than the fumbling that I had previously been doing!
- Keep Bottle in Hands Wrap a child’s glass or baby bottle with rubber bands so it won’t slip out of tiny hands.
- keep bottles cold while out When going out on a short outing and you need to bring a bottle with you for the baby, try putting a frozen freezie or two right inside the bottle to keep the bottle cold longer without icecubes that would water it down. works great for any bottle, not just baby bottles...ie: bottles of pop, juice ,etc.
- Laundry Basket Bath This works great when baby has learned to sit up. Put a laundry basket in the tub (be sure it has a non-skid surface)and let him sit in the basket for his bath. He'll have a ball playing in the water, and he is "intact".

- Love All I can think of is to always know that you love your child no matter what they did.
- Lowering a high fever quickly for your child When your infant or child has a high fever and medicine isn't working fast enough here is something you can do. Grab a washcloth and fold it in forths. Grab a little handful of cotton balls and place them on the washcloth. Pour some rubbing alcohol on the cotton balls to saturation. Place, cotton ball side down, directly on your infant or childs belly button and leave there for about 15-20 minutes. Check temperature after 10 minutes and you should notice the temperature starting to go down. After 15-20 minutes, fever should be down dramatically or completely gone. Repeat as necessary.
- Make a Baby Toy A quick and easy toy to make is fill a clear plastic soft drink bottle3/4 full with water and little splash of food colouring and then add anything small that floats... the bottle will be brightly coloured with movable items in it... make sure that the lid is tightly shut though for safety reasons.
- Making a Baby Toy A cloth bag filled with crackle cellophane makes an intriguing toy for an infant.
- Messy Diaper Changes I always keep a spray bottle filled with water and a few tablespoons of baby wash on the changing table. When my babies have a messy poop, I give their bottom a few sprits before wiping with a wipe. This cleans them off much better and faster than wipes alone. I also end up using fewer wipes as a result.
- Mixing formula Whenever I would try to mix my son's powdered formula in his bottle when we were out, I usually ended up with excess bubbles and foam that filled the bottle. I added 1 or 2 drops of Mylicon before shaking, and the bubbles disappeared. I've also used this when making big batches of formula at home.
- Mobile Changing Station Place a fabric lined basket complete with diapering supplies in other areas of you house where baby may play or sleep - other than his/her room. A mobile changing station should include wipes, diapers, powders/creams, some hand sanitizer, and a spare changing pad from an extra diaper bag. This is great for multi- level homes!
- My colic baby My baby was crying so much, so I went to a Jamaican Grocery and got him "Nurse Harvey's Gripe mixture." My baby stopped crying instantly, I was so relieved, because I had to do a final for class and I did, boy was I relieved.
- Nail clipping Clip infant/childs finger & toe nails when they sleep! Everyone benefits from not hearing the screaming and fighting.
- Natural Baby Wipes Instead of the chemical packed commercial baby wipes why not just buy a jumbo pack of cheap baby face cloths just for wiping little bottoms and just wet them with warm water. Baby oils or perfums are irritating and can clog pores. If you need wipes when you go out many health food stores carry wipes with all natural ingredients.
- No more lost pacifier in the car This little trick saved me from having to pull over, get out of the car and reinsert the pacifier of a fussy infant. Buy one of those pacifier leashes and attach it to the strap of the infant car seat. This way, if it falls out and the baby starts to fuss, simply reach behind to the pacifier leash, fish it out and stick it back in. It is always best to wait until you are at a stop light or stop sign to do this! :)
- No Poop Today Feeding sugar to a baby to help them poop is not a good idea. Instead, try some slippery elm powder in baby cereal or a herbal combination of catnip and fennel. These are a lot more natural instead of loading up on the sugar. The sugar makes things move because the body is trying to get rid of it (doesn't really fix the problem).
- Nose blocks If your infant has a stuffy nose that's creating difficulty for him to breathe at nights, and you don't want to wake him up from sleep to clean it up, just drop a few drops of eucalyptus oil on the blanket around his nasal area, when he breathes the vapours, the nasal passage is cleared for smoother breathing!!!
- Oh those creases! Everyone loves a plump and healthy little baby, but every parent knows the difficulty of caring for all those creases....particularly all those folds of neck! We've tried several different methods, but my husband has found the one that works best. Here's his tip....in order to make that hidden area accessible, just place baby on his or her tummy (after they are able to lift their head). Baby will lift her head and walla - instant access to the neck for cleaning and applying powder. We've found that applying powder to the neck area after a good cleaning and drying will prevent baby from getting a raw and sore neck (caused by moisture from spit-up getting trapped between those folds.) (be sure when applying powder to first put it on your fingertips and then apply to the neck in order to prevent baby from inhaling any powder .)
- Old recieving blankets I sewed old receiving blankets together like a pillow case toslide onto my change table pad. They are easy to wash and makes a diaper change alittle warmer and more comfortable for baby.
- Out of Baby Food?!? When you are really desperate to feed your baby some veggiesand you have no jars of veggies left...Open a can of green beans or peas! Drain most of the liquid and then use one of those hand blenders (like Braun) right in the can (the hand blender fits perfectly in the can)! Scoop out what you want and put a sandwich bag over the top of the can and pop the leftovers in the fridge. You can do this with fruit too--as long as it is the fruit in juice, not in syrup! Note: this is for the mommie in a pinch--canned foods are not as nutritious as fresh or frozen!
-
Outgrown Clothes My 4 month old daughter Maggie, has outgrown many of her clothes
at an outrageous rate. To limit clutter and overstuffed drawers and closets, I hang two
plastic shopping bags on hangers in her closet. In one bag, I put those items I save for
other family members with babies. In the other bag, I put clothes that I am going to
sell to a second hand kids shop. When they are full, I am ready to get rid of them and
have more room to buy more.
- Pacifier Cleanliness Don't just throw baby's pacifier in the diaper bag. Keep it in a clean, small bowl with a lid (like a butter bowl). This will keep the pacifier from getting dirty and germy. Be sure to send the bowl and lid thru the dish washer weekly also.
- Picture Book for Baby My little girl loves to look at other babies and especially likes to look at herself in the mirror. She has a couple of books that are pics of babies, but they don't quite look real. After she got in trouble one too many times, in one day, for getting into the photo albums (she recently started standing), I had an idea. We had an inexpensive photo album a relative gave her. It's basically just the plastic pages, no hard bound cover at all. I took a bunch of copies of pictures of her (I always get double prints)and put them in the album. I made sure I included pictures of mommy , daddy, both sets of grandparents, and the cat so she could see things she knew. Hopefully it will also help her remember the grandparents who all live out of town. This has been her all time favorite book so far! She will sit on the floor for quite some time, looking at the pictures!
- Picture Teether I bought a teething ring which held pictures of precious moments characters. It is on a ring like a keychain and holds 3 teething blocks. All 3 teething blocks holds 2 wallet size pictures of precious moments characters. We removed these characters and inserted pictures of grandparents and baby cousins who live far away. Our daughter started learning their names early on and this is her favorite thing to take w/ her. We included pics of mom and baby, dad and baby, grandmama and grandpa w/ baby, baby alone, baby w/ other baby cousing, and puppy. Our child goes no where w/o this (in our mind). It remembers family names, and also eases transition to church nursery of mama and daddy w/ her pictures. She is now 15 months old and everyone likes it, so that is a good gift to give also. If you can't find a safe ring such as this...laminating pictures also works.
- Play Links For a less expensive alternative to the colourful infant & toddler links that can be purchased, try using shower curtain rings - just make sure you are buying a kind that lock or are stiff enough that they won't pinch baby's fingers. Link play links, they come in a variety of colours but often run for a $1/dozen - much cheaper than the links on the toy shelves! In addition to using them for baby play and attaching toys to strollers & car seats, they're useful for locking your kitchen cupboard doors together.
- Playpen Time I have found that giving our infant son some "playpen time" every day is a great thing! We started this when he was about 6 months. We set the playpen up in the living room and started out by putting him in it for about 10-15 minutes a day. We left the room so that he couldn't see us, but we could easily see him. So, he thought he was alone and he'd play with the 3-4 toys we left in his pen for him. (Don't put in too many toys!) Over time, we increased the amount of "alone" time by 5 minute increments, so that now he can play in his playpen by himself for a good 45 minutes. This helps him to foster a sense of security so that he doesn't have to be clinging to mom and dad every minute of the day. It will also help later on as he grows older b/c there won't always be someone around to play with, so he gets used to playing by himself for a short period of time, and it's not a problem.
- Q-Tip After taking baby a bath, loosen and fluff up the cotton on cotton swabs before cleaning baby's ears. This helps absorb more water.
- Rosemary This is for you mommies out there who have children in nursery school/kindergarden who don't know about rosemary. My first born got lice a few times in kindergarden in just one year even tho I had washed her hair every single day! Finally, when my 2nd daughter was born, I found out that I didn't have to go out and buy special shampoo against lice, but to buy two things: children's shampoo WITH ROSEMARY and PURE ROSEMARY LIQUID (which is easily found in spray form as well as simply liquid in small bottle). You shampoo your child's hair everyday with the shampoo when child comes home and every morning you either spray behind both ears and back of head the rosemary or put drops of rosemary on finger tip and rub behind ears and back of head. Rosemary in bottle is very strong, may take a little getting used to but it really works!
- Rotating Toys To keep your baby entertained easily, rotate toys each day or two. One day I let him play with his stuffed tiger that daddy bought him, and his musical parrot. The next day I give him his mirror and a rattle. This keeps baby entertained longer because he does not get bored as easily. It also gives Mommy a break from the annoying musical toys for a day.
- Rubbing Noses When your newborn or infant is starting to get cranky and is tired rub the top of their nose up and down with your pointer finger and they will fall fast asleep!
- Save money and avoid diaper/nappy rash Commercial diaper wipes are expensive and even the alcohol free ones are really harsh on baby's sensitive skin. A chux wipe or even a soft tissue (not toilet paper though - it falls apart) wet with warm water cleans up the messiest diapers, costs very little and is perfectly gentle on skin.
- Save on Baby Wipes Using lots of baby wipes? Try cutting them in half. Of course, you'll want to use two halves for a poopy diaper, half is enough for a wet one. It sure can save lots of money, and it doesn't take long to cut through them.

- Save the towel To make inexpensive wash cloths, which I use as baby wipes, take an old towel and cut to size of a wipe container. Then either zig zag the edges or serge them. I keep about 22 at a time and wash them in a bleach solution. Much cheaper than wipes. I keep them damp in the wipe container by using about 1 cup of water, 1 tablespoon of baby oil, and 1 tablespoon of baby soap.
- Saving socks from disappearing Those baby socks are so tiny that the dryer just eats them up!! I bought two net bags with zippers (the kind you use to wash nylons). I keep them in the nursery. When socks are taken off they go directly into the bags, one for colored socks and one for white socks. When it's time to do laundry, just zipper the bags closed and throw the bags in the washer and dryer. No more missing socks.
- Sleep solutions If your infant just won't go to sleep and you don't believe in the cry it out theory here's a true-blue solution. Turn the vacuum cleaner on. The white noise calms them down and put them to sleep easily. Also try the TV on static channels or an electric razor.
- Sleeping Like A Baby... My 6 month old daughter is nursed to sleep each night. To keep her asleep once I lay her in the crib, I put my nursing pads in her crib as well. I usually place them on either side of her head but close to the bumper pad. Since I have been wearing these pads all day, they smell like me and my milk. The pads are small enough that she won't suffocate with them in the bed (unlike a shirt or pj top that has to be removed).
- Sleeping Through The Night ** We would never make midnight/2am etc. feeds andnappy changes a time of chatter and laughter. We would always keep our voices to a mininal volume, just reassuring 'coos' etc. ** We wouldn't turn on bright lights, using instead, a very dim light/lamp...eventually, being able to feed and change the babe in virtually no light! ** We would put bubby to bed overnight in a disposable nappy as they are so much more absorbant and comfortable for the baby, and thus, less nappy changes would be required unless they had left quite a decent 'solid' deposit for us! ** We would change the babies before feeding them (actually, Peter would change them while I woke up and prepared to feed), that way, once the baby was asleep, we wouldn't have to disturb them again. ** We would get the babies used to falling back to sleep themselves, not always needing us to feed or cuddle them to sleep. (Our eldest, when she was 9 months, was 'hooked' on being nursed to sleep, and we were sick of it! So we tried the 'controlled crying' method, and found it worked almost straight away! By the second and third night, Dani was getting herself off to sleep at bedtimes without any fuss. We STRONGLY recommend this method for problem sleepers.) All of our kids were sleeping through the night (ie. not waking for a feed between about 10 or 11pm and about 6 or 7am) from 3 or 4 weeks of age, but definitely by about 6 weeks....even though 4 of our 6 babies had severe reflux and/or colic, plus a number of other usually sleep-disturbing problems. Peter and I believe it's because we are firm, but fair...and we are 'persistantly consistant'...ie., we are CONSISTANT with the methods we use and as the children get older, we FOLLOW THROUGH with the discipline they need, if they do something which is detrimental to themselves, or others around them.
- Smile Smile at your baby a lot. Even when mommy feels down smile. Your baby or child can sense when you are not "yourself". Smile no matter what!
- Sock Feet As my baby grows she will tend to grow out of one size quicker than she grows into the next size clothes. Her feet would usually get "tangled" up in the onesie outfits because they were too long for her. (The ones with feet.) She would get so mad because she could not staighten her legs out. I started putting socks on her feet on the outside of the outfits. That would keep her from pulling her feet up and getting them tangled up inside the outfit.
- Soothing sounds at Bath time When My baby was a newborn, he hated taking a bath, my mom suggested that I leave the cold water running while he takes the bath, as this reminds him of the sounds in the womb. It sure worked to relax him in the bath and now he loves taking baths
- Soothing Teething Pain I have found the best thing for soothing your babies teething pain. Get yourself one of those "Baby Safe Feeders", they are those mesh net feeders that you can put fruit in. Chop some ice up and put it in it. Domenic is in heaven when I give it to him, it works so well. Frozen fruit works great also. It numbs their pain longer than and oral topic and he loves to suck on it.
- Special Pillow After each of my babies outgrew the bottle stage, I came up with a great idea to use burp cloths. I took two matching, or coordinating ones and sewed them together to make a pillow cover. Travel-size pillows are the perfect size to cover. Each one of my children have their own "special pillow" from their babyhood now. They are durable and when they get dirty, toss them in the washer, then dryer! Pretend like I'm going to change her and sing the theme song from "Elmos World" She immediately stops. The other thing that gets her to IMMEDIATELY stop crying is to put on the Wizard of Oz. As soon as Dorothy lands in Oz and meets the Munchkins, my daughter is entranced through the whole movie! These are tried and true suggestions!
- Storing infant's clothes I had several friends give me their gently used children's clothes when they found out I was pregnant. I didn't know what to do with all of them. So I went out and bought several big plastic storage boxes and labeled them in sizes (0- 3 months, 3-6 months etc....) Then I washed all of the clothes in Dreft and stored them in the boxes in the baby's closet. Now I just go to the appropriate box and pull out all of the clothes that will fit. When they get too small, I return all of the clothes back into their appropriate box for storage.
- Stuffed up nose Its winter and the air is dry. Many infants may have excess and/or crusty 'boogers' for lack of a better term which block some of the nostrils. I have learned 3 tricks to help. 1. Run a humidifier in baby's room at night 2. Use a Q-tip to put a SMALL amount of Vaseline just barely inside each nostril. Be careful...you dont want to clog the nostril 3. Get some saline nose drops at the drug store and place a couple drops into each nostril. The baby won't like it but in a minute or so all the snot will come flying out of their nose. THey will be able to breathe easier Its better than that blub thingy and my dr. has said all these things were safe and effective.
- Sure cure for Diaper Rash My baby girl had one diaper rash that NOTHING would get rid of! I mean nothing. we tried EVERYTHING we, and the doctor could think of. What finally worked?? Mylanta (antacid liquid medicine!)!!!! Every time I'd change her, I'd apply some w/a cotten ball or my finger, and let it dry mostly, then finish dressing her. It worked w/in 24 hours!!! Completely healed! :)
- Teething When my little one is suffering from teething pain, I take one of his frozen ice cubes of his favorite baby food, such as peaches or pears, (I make his food by blending fresh or frozen fruit and veggies in the blender and freeze it in ice cube trays)and wrap it in a baby wash cloth. I tie the cloth tightly around the cube and knot it. I run it under some hot water for a few seconds so it's not too cold and then give it to my son. His gums are soothed and he sucks on his favorite food until it's mushy. Good for him and makes him feel better!
- Teething When your baby is cutting teeth and you have run out of or missed placed the baby orajel.... Pure Vanilla extract is a quick home remedy ..... Just rub on gums like you would orajel.
- Teething For a teething baby, take a small (4 oz) bottle and fill it with water. Freeze it up-side-down, so that the nipple is full of ice. It is a familiar nipple that the baby will accept better than a new teether and the ice will help numb the baby's gums. It works wonders for my son!
- Teething Instant Home Remedy - If you dont have a teething ring at home and even if you do sometimes this works better. Take a clean washcloth and dampen it - put it in a plastic baggy and put it in the freezer - let it freeze and have it ready to give your teething baby. It is a wonder worker and it will sooth and cool their gums. I always kept several for my baby and this was one of the greatest hints passed on to me from grandma. This is a sure fire trick to get you smoothly through teething.
- Teething Vanilla extract is the best thing to use for a teething baby. Just rub it on his gums.
- Teething Place a few carrots in the freezer for about 3 hours. It makes a great snack and is very helpful with a teething child.
- Teething My little girl who is now almost 7 months had started teething at the age of 5 months. She cried until I found the problem and She doesn't cry much anymore it is great. What you don't do: 1. Do not keep giving a child tylenol, It can cause serious damage or even death if you use it too frequently. 2. Any kind of Oral Gel is fine but please follow the directions. 3. DO NOT use Vanilla Extract for it has alcohol (Not alot but it's enough for their lil bodies) or Any other kind of Alcohol. What you can do: 1. I peel a carrot, wash it and as it is wet I freeze it. The cold numbs the area, which is much safer than medications. 2. You take a (CLEAN) baby sock drop one or two ice cubes in it and tie it off, let them chew on it. 3. Get a warm wash cloth and massage their gums. (They will appreaciate it) 4. You can use a regular teether but my Sarah would not use them. She teethed using the biter biscuits, sock and ice & I massaged her gums. I used Oral Gel once and she didn't like it. I don't blame her I tried it, it made my toungue go numb. (I tried hers) What I found best for teething is the red, white & black circle links she will chew on them like mad. (They have ridges on them they are perfect. Hope these help.. Plus help parents stay away from the mouth numbing medicines).
- Teething Helper! My son had a tough time with teething at 6 months and had 8 teethby 8 months. I bought him a small round 'electric' battery powered toothbrush for a stocking stuffer- and a set of batteries later HE still loves it! When he seems to have toothy crankies I take it out and let him "play" and ease his own pain. Safety first- Be careful not to let your baby walk/crawl around with it in their mouth. And it is a cute thing to see in public- "oh look at the cute baby brushing his own teeth."
- Teething pain To ease teething pain, you can put some Baby Orajel on a damp wash cloth and put the wash cloth in the freezer. Baby can chew on this and get cool relief!
- Teething Pain For those babies who are suffering from teething pain but won't open up to let mom or dad apply teething gel (i.e. Anbesol or Orajel) here's a great trick my husband figured out: Put a small amount of teething gel on the top of the baby's pacifier. When he or she opens up for that, simply wipe the gel on the gums and pop the pacifier in. We have used this technique for several months now and it's made a world of difference!
- Teething Problems When my son was teething, particularly his front teeth, I took sponges (that I washed repeatedly until any pretreated effects would be eliminated) and cut them into strips that he could hold. I then soaked one end in water and froze them in a tupperware container standing up. the end that was soaked and frozen could be chewed on. What a great way to numb his sore mouth!
- Teething Tip Get red or black licorice and give it to them cold or normal to suck on. This provides natural numbing for their sore gums.
- Teething Tots My babies always hate those chilled teethers and their little hands get cold! Try a chilled apple slice wrapped in a damp washclothed tied w/ a rubberband and let them chew and chew. They will love the taste and soothe those sore gums!
- Teething toys My 6 month old is in major teething mode right now - she hates teething rings, wet cloths, and I am reluctant to give her motrin all the time. What I recently found works really well is a brand new *strong* but soft bristled toothbrush. She loves the bristle feeling on her gums and BONUS - she cleans her own tooth!
- Teething whoas --- When my daughter was teething, it was so frustrating trying to get the Bonjela in her mouth using my finger or the tube. It would spill or half of it wouldn't even make it in her mouth, so we tried putting it on her binky and it worked like a charm!
- Tip for good eyesight if mustard oil is massaged on the thumb of child everyday his eyesight will be good for ever
- Tips about bottles with disp. liners When you are feeding your baby the bottle with the disposable liner make sure that when you go to set it down to burp your baby, that you lay the bottle on its side. If you do not lay the bottle on its side it will get air in it and therefore the baby will be sucking air.
- Travel Baby Wipes When I go out for the day I just put some baby wipes into one of those snap-lock sealable bags and it keeps them nice and moist. This way it is not too bulky and you can even just take your hand-bag with a disposable nappy and these.
- Traveling with baby The most important thing is to have a light weight well stocked diaper bag that is near the front door ready to go. Getting out of the house is so complicated that any thing that organizes that trip is very important.
- Treating Thrush If your baby has thrush you don't need prescriptions drugs to treat it. Simply disslove 1 teaspoon of baking soda in a cup of lukewarm water. Dip a q-tip into the solution and gently wipe the inside of the baby's mouth. Make sure to wipe gums, inside cheek area and tongue. This should be done after every nursing. The solution should be prepared fresh each day. I have found after applying it for only one day, the thrush disappears.
- Trimming baby's nails If your baby routinely falls asleep in the car, stash a pair of baby nail clippers in the door pocket or glove compartment. When you reach your destination, trim his nails before getting him out of the car.
- Tummy Drops Does your infant have colic or constant hiccups? Have you found that colic drops are expensive and do no good? Get a new or cleaned medicine. When baby is fussy or has hiccups, give him a few drops of water, apple juice, or his favorite liquid. It distracts baby from the pain and gives him the comfort of knowing mommy wants to help. This also works for making baby swallow on the airplane to avoid earaches.
- Unique baby wipes case You can use Bob the Builder video cassette cases as a travel wipes case(you know, the bright yellow ones). It keeps them moist and you can carry more at a time then other wipes cases.
- Use Soap Wisely I am the mother of three, and sometimes they have a problem with constipation instead of running to the local pharmacy for a high priced aid I simply cut a very small amount of soap in instert in their bum and within 5-10 minutes no more constipation. (Seek your doctor's opinion first, please.)
- What to do with all those receiving blankets I had about one hundred receiving blankets. No one seemed to want them so I came up with some ways to re-use them. 1)Sew two together and use as a cover up in the car (We live in Michigan, it sometimes takes longer for the car to warm then it does to get there.)2)Cut in half, fold the half in half long ways, make a seam by stitching a third of the way from the fold. Open the fold flat and sew it down. Voila, homade cloth diapers!3)Sew two together around three sides leaving one end open. flip down the open edge to make a casing and sew it almost all the way around. Insert a string and tie. Now you have a drawstring bag for what ever. I use mine for toys and to store outsized baby clothes.4)Cut into car rags. Dries the car great since most are made of flannel.
-
Wipes When you get a container of wipes cut them in half they last longer.
